Egypt's tourism revenue
jumped 83.3 % to about $ 2.2 billion in the first quarter, with the number of
tourists coming to the country rising 37.1% to 2.383 million. The number of
room nights reserved, reached 23.8 million nights in the first quarter of 2018.
The number of tourists who
visited the cities of the Red Sea, during April, reached 375 thousand and 852
tourists through airports, ports and roads.
An official statistics declared
that the German tourists came in the forefront of incoming tourism, and the
number of German tourists, during the past month, reached 119 thousand and 274
tourists, followed by the Egyptian tourism 45523, followed by British 25459 tourists,
The Czech Tourists numbers was 16,440, followed by Polish tourists with 14,440
tourists, Dutch with 14,000 tourists, followed by the Netherlands with 14,000
tourists, Switzerland with 11525 tourists, Belgium with 11357 tourists, Belarus
with 9559 tourists, Austria with 9239 tourists and Italy with 8946 tourists.
French tourism came in 13th
place among incoming tourism with 8,419 tourists, followed by Russia with 5505
tourists despite the suspension of Russian flights to Hurghada airport, where
Russian tourists come through Turkey and Ukraine, Armenia came last with only
42 tourists.
On the other hand, the
percentage of hotel occupancy in Red Sea cities reached 63.48% in April.
Hurghada came first with 64.30%, followed by Safaga with 64.13% and Marsa Alam
with 63.81% and the total occupancy percentage reached 49.48% respectively.
The temptation of the
Egyptian tourist destination increased following the decision of the Central
Bank to liberalize the exchange rate of the pound in November 2016, which led
to the devaluation of the local currency by half and strengthened the competitiveness
of the sector.
